Edge staples = ceil(exposed edge length ÷ edge staple spacing)
Seam staples = ceil(total seam length ÷ seam staple spacing)
Planning total = (base + edge + seam) × (1 + extra allowance)
Packages = ceil(planning total ÷ staples per package)

Sod Staple Planning Guide
- Use the base spacing as a planning assumption, not as a universal rule. Different sod, soil, weather and slope conditions can require different staple patterns.
- Edges and seams can need more attention than the middle of a lawn. Enter those lengths separately when you want the estimate to reflect your layout.
- Slopes, curves, soft soil and wind-exposed areas can increase the practical quantity required. Use the extra allowance to avoid an artificially tight purchase estimate.
- Package size is included because buying 1,037 individual staples is different from buying 11 packs of 100.

How do I calculate staples for sod seams?
Add the total length of the seams and choose the staple spacing you want to use along those seams. The tool adds that requirement to the main-area and edge estimates.
Does this work for landscape fabric pins?
The arithmetic can also be used as a planning framework for similar landscape staples or pins, but product shape, holding power and installation instructions differ. Use the correct product guidance for the material you are securing.
